  • “Creating Awareness on Mental Health Conditions and Stigma Against Persons with Mental Disorders in Ghana”. (2005 and 2006), funded by the World Health Organization (WHO).

  • “Advocacy for The Establishment of a User Movement in Ghana and Assertingthe Rights of Persons with Mental Disorders” (2007 – 2012). Project implemented in partnership with BasicNeeds Ghana to implement with funding from Comic Relief

  • “Effective Advocacy for the Implementation and Monitoring of the CRPD in Ghana” (2013 – 2015). A MindFreedom Ghana, Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations (GFD) and Law and Development Associates (LADA) partnership funded by Open Society Initiative West Africa (OSIWA)
  • “Advocacy for Ghana’s Disability Law to be congruent with the CRPD” (2015 – 2017) MFGh partnered GFD to implement the project funded by DRF

  • “Promoting Quality Access to Mental Healthcare and Rights of Persons with Mental Disabilities in Traditional Mental Health Centres in Ghana”. A two- and half-year project (Oct. 2017 – Feb. 2020) with Human Rights Advocacy Centre as lead partners on community awareness on mental health, capacity building of operators of traditional mental health centers and a research on the treatment processes at these centres. Mental Health Authority and Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association were associate partners in the project. Funding was by STAR Ghana Foundation

  • “QualityRights: Promoting Human Rights and Recovery for People with Mental Health Conditions, Psychosocial and Intellectual Disabilities in Ghana”. MindFreedom Ghana is working as partners with Ghana Health Service (GHS), Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), BasicNeeds Ghana, Mental Health Society of Ghana (MEHSOG) and six other organizations. Mental Health Authority is the lead partner of the project (2018 – 2021)

  • “Empowering People with Psychosocial Disabilities to Fight for Their Rights: Implementing the CRPD and WHO QualityRights Principles In Ghana” MindFreedom Ghana worked with MEHSOG on an European Union funded 3 year project (2019 – 2022) which focused on human rights standards and assessing treatment of persons with mental health conditions at psychiatric facilities and general hospitals. Lead partner in this project was the University of Cagliari, Italy which was also implemented simultaneously in Armenia and Lebanon.

  • “Institutional Strengthening and Awareness Raising to Fight COVID-19 And Its Impact on People with Lived Experiences in Ghana”. This current project (2020-2022) which MindFreedom Ghana is implementing will support in strengthening the capacity of our organisation for advocacy and awareness creation, contribute to addressing the scourge of stigma and discrimination associated with COVID-19, which patients of the pandemic as well as relatives suffer. Funds for the two year project have been granted by Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA)
  • “Institutional Strengthening And Promotion of The Rights of Persons with Psychosocial Disabilities Through The Universal Periodic Review Mechanism”.
    This project commenced in October 2021 and ends in April 2023. The overarching objective of the project is two-fold; first it is designed to strengthen the capacity of MindFreedom Ghana as an organization and secondly to promote NGO advocacy on the rights of persons with psychosocial disabilities in the Context of the Universal Period Review (UPR) Mechanism

Provision of Covid-19 Information and Services for Persons with Mental Health Conditions and Caregivers

Objectives

To initiate advocacy activities aimed at raising awareness on the plight of persons with psychosocial disabilities and their caregivers as well as persons who have recovered from COVID-19 and to advocate social inclusion strategies to improve their quality of mental well-being during the pandemic.
